On the morning of February 15, 2025, Professor Jinyan Huang, director of the Evidence-based Research Center for Education Assessment (ERCEA) of Jiangsu University, was invited to attend the International Forum on Smart Rural Education and Children’s Holistic Development hosted by the School of Foreign Languages of Hunan University. During the forum, Professor Huang delivered a keynote speech titled “Research on Generative Artificial Intelligence and Language Assessment.”


Professor Huang conducted a systematic review of the advantages and limitations associated with the implementation of generative artificial intelligence in language assessment. Initially, Professor Huang presented generative artificial intelligence, emphasizing the exceptional capabilities of deep learning-based AI models such as ChatGPT in language evaluation. Subsequently, Professor Huang concentrated on conventional issues in language assessment, including reliability, validity, fairness, and the necessity for multi-dimensional evaluations, while showcasing the potential of AI through case studies in English writing classroom assessments and large-scale evaluations. Ultimately, Professor Huang presented examples of AI applications in multilingual abilities assessment and fervently endorsed using AI technology in educational language evaluation.
